Detailed description
The Youth Court Assistance Service helps young people and young adults when they come into conflict with the law. It is responsible for all of Hamburg and is part of the Eimsbüttel district office. The Youth Court Assistance Service has four sections: West, South, East 1, and East 2.
When criminal proceedings are initiated against a young person, the youth welfare office must be involved. The youth welfare office then works as a youth court assistance service, collaborating with the police, the public prosecutor's office, the court, and the prison.
The youth court assistance service helps:
- Young people aged 14 and over
- young adults who are not yet 21 years old
- their parents or guardians
The youth court assistance service assesses whether young people need help. If so, it offers help itself or refers them to other services.
The youth court assistance service also supports the court. They speak with the young people and get to know them. They report to the court on how the young people live and what they need. They suggest to the court what kind of support or punishment might be appropriate.
The youth court assistance service offers various forms of support, for example:
- Discussions with the victims (compensation)
- Working hours
- Care and support
- Social skills courses
- Traffic education
The youth court assistance service offers these services itself or collaborates with other institutions. It selects the appropriate assistance, monitors progress, and reports to the court.
When a young person has to go to prison, the juvenile court assistance service stays in contact. They help with the release and provide support afterwards.
