Here you will find information about the pilot project for the use of vehicles for the digital control of parking permits.

Detailed description

The video surveillance vehicles use cameras and GPS sensors to digitally check your parking permits, such as resident parking permits, parking tickets, or special parking permits. Your vehicle's license plate is electronically scanned to verify whether a valid parking permit has been purchased. Hamburg will initially test the use of these vehicles in a pilot project starting in July 2026 in the resident parking zones of Harvestehude and Borgfelde/Hohenfelde/Uhlenhorst. Please note

As usual, you will need a parking ticket or other parking permit (resident parking permit, visitor parking permit, or special parking permit) in the relevant parking management areas. This will make parking enforcement in Hamburg more modern and efficient, and will also reduce the burden on citizens.

Procedure

When you purchase a parking ticket, enter your license plate number at the parking meter. For resident and visitor parking permits, as well as special parking permits, the license plate numbers are already automatically stored digitally upon application. Therefore, you don't need to do anything further.


In the future, most parking permits will no longer need to be displayed in paper form in the vehicle, but will be checked digitally. The video surveillance vehicles will patrol the resident parking zones of Harvestehude and Borgfelde/Hohenfelde/Uhlenhorst, providing information on potential violations. The final inspection of the vehicle will still be carried out by City of Hamburg employees.
