Detailed description

If you move into a new apartment, you are required to register with the relevant authority within a specified period. You must also change your address on your official documents. Further information can be found in the "Links" section.

Prerequisites

  • Your identity card is valid.
  • You have already registered with your new address at your responsible location for residents' affairs.

Please note

You can only apply for a change of address for your identity card online if you register a new place of residence at the same time.

Deadlines

You must have your new address changed on your identity card immediately after the change of address or change it yourself online.

Procedure

If you apply for a change of address in person:

  • You arrange a personal appointment at the office responsible for you for resident affairs
  • You report in person to the office responsible for you for resident affairs.
  • You present your valid identity card and your official confirmation of registration.
  • Hamburg Service sticks an official address sticker with your new address over the old address on your identity card.
  • You can authorize another person in writing to change your address at your responsible office for residents' affairs in the identity card.

When applying for a change of address online:

  • You call up the online service.
  • You log in to the online service with your user account.
  • You enter all the required data online.
  • Hamburg Service will send you an address label with your new address by post.
  • Stick the address sticker with your new address over the old address on your identity card.

The processing time is about 5 minutes.

Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visits are by appointment only. You can book an appointment online (https://www.hamburg.de/go/17584) or by phone at +49 40 115. The office is closed on Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in odd-numbered calendar weeks.

At our speed capture terminals, you can easily capture the biometric data (photo, fingerprints, signature) required for applying for an identity card, passport, residence permit, or travel document. This data is accessed solely by a clerk for the purpose of processing your application and is not used for any other purpose. The data is deleted within 60 minutes of being accessed, or within 12 hours if it is not accessed.



The collected data can be used for several documents, such as identity cards and passports.


Please note that the photo booth is not suitable for passport photos of infants and toddlers.


You will not receive a print of your photo.



Capturing and digitally transmitting a photo costs €6.00. This usage fee will be collected by the clerk along with the other fees.



The self-service terminal cannot be used for fishing licenses or driver's license applications. Please bring a biometric passport photo for these purposes.
