If you need a registration certificate, you can apply for one locally at your registration office. You will receive a certificate from the register of residents containing the data stored about you.

Detailed description

The registration certificate contains the following data:

  • First and Last Name
  • If applicable: Doctorate
  • birth date
  • Current addresses (main and secondary residences)

If you require additional stored data, you can request a registration certificate with further details. This can contain the following additional data:

  • former names,
  • Religious name, stage name,
  • Date of birth, place of birth and, if born abroad, the country,
  • Gender,
  • Information on the legal representative,
  • current nationalities,
  • legal affiliation with a public-law religious society,
  • Previous addresses (including those abroad), if applicable with move-in and move-out dates,
  • Marital status and, where applicable, date and place of marriage or establishment of civil partnership,
  • Information on spouses and partners,
  • Information on minor children,
  • Issuing authority, date of issue, last day of validity and serial number of personal documents such as identity card, passport and eID card

  • You appear in person or
  • You are represented by a person authorized by you

Documents required

  • Your original identity card or passport

For authorized persons:

  • Power of attorney of the person for whom a registration certificate is to be issued, including all data to be issued
  • Original identity card or passport of the person auditioning
  • Identity card or passport of the person granting the power of attorney in original or copy

Please note

If you would like to apply for a registration certificate for your adult child, you will need a power of attorney.



At the Hamburg Service locations, only data from 1987 onwards is available. For data before 1987, please contact the Central Registration Office in Harburg.

  • You can make an appointment online or by calling 115 with the office responsible for your place of residence.
  • You appear in person at the appointment and apply for a registration certificate by submitting any necessary documents.
  • You pay the fee.
  • You will receive the registration certificate.

You can use this service at any Hamburg Service location, regardless of where you live in Hamburg.

Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visits are by appointment only. You can book an appointment online (https://www.hamburg.de/go/17584) or by phone at +49 40 115. The office is closed on Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in odd-numbered calendar weeks.

At our speed capture terminals, you can easily capture the biometric data (photo, fingerprints, signature) required for applying for an identity card, passport, residence permit, or travel document. This data is accessed solely by a clerk for the purpose of processing your application and is not used for any other purpose. The data is deleted within 60 minutes of being accessed, or within 12 hours if it is not accessed.



The collected data can be used for several documents, such as identity cards and passports.


Please note that the photo booth is not suitable for passport photos of infants and toddlers.


You will not receive a print of your photo.



Capturing and digitally transmitting a photo costs €6.00. This usage fee will be collected by the clerk along with the other fees.



The self-service terminal cannot be used for fishing licenses or driver's license applications. Please bring a biometric passport photo for these purposes.
