Detailed description
Banks and savings banks must pay out all incoming payments to creditors if your account is subject to garnishment. They are not legally obligated to keep certain social benefits, for example, in the account.
A protected bank account (P-account) is a special current account that protects you from account garnishment. It ensures that, despite garnishment, you retain a legally defined basic allowance for living expenses. Your monthly basic allowance is automatically protected. You can increase it if needed, for example, if you have maintenance obligations or receive social benefits. The aim is to secure your minimum subsistence level and prevent your account from being completely frozen.
You can apply to convert any existing current account into a protected account (P-account). You are only allowed to have one protected account.
