Apply for a Mobile ICT card

If you already have an ICT card from another EU country and would like to work temporarily in Germany, you can apply for a mobile ICT card.


This applies to you as a manager, specialist or trainee.


The mobile ICT card is a special residence permit.

 

Information

Prerequisites

  • You possess an ICT card from another EU country.
  • You will work in the German branch as a manager, specialist or trainee.
  • They have been employed by the company for at least 6 months.
  • You will remain employed by the company during your stay in Germany.
  • The stay in Germany lasts longer than 90 days.
  • Your stay in Germany will last a maximum of 3 years. If you are a trainee, the maximum is 1 year.
  • The Federal Employment Agency has approved the employment.

Documents required

  • Valid passport or passport substitute
  • valid ICT card from a member state
  • current registration certificate
  • Employment contract with proof of previous length of employment in the company
  • If applicable, a letter of assignment from the company.
  • Proof of qualification (for example, certificates, diplomas)
  • Confirmation of the planned stay in Germany, including details of the position and duration of the stay
  • Proof of health insurance
  • Current biometric photo in digital form
    • You can have a passport photo taken on site. A photo booth is available.
    • You can also have a passport photo taken at a photographer's office or a drugstore. It can then be retrieved electronically from there when you appear for your passport photo.
  • Proof of sufficient means of subsistence

Depending on the specific circumstances of your case, other documents may be required. The relevant authority can inform you accordingly.

Please note

The Federal Employment Agency must approve the exercise of the employment and will examine your activity as a manager, specialist or trainee, as well as the remuneration and working conditions.

Deadlines

If you are already in Germany under the short-term mobility scheme, you must submit your application at least 20 days before the end of your short-term mobility stay.




If you are still abroad, you must submit the application at least 20 days before entering Germany.




If you submitted your application 20 days before your arrival, you are allowed to stay and work in Germany for up to 90 days within a 180-day period until the immigration authorities make a decision.

Procedure

  • You use the online service to apply for the mobile ICT card after your arrival and to upload the required documents.
  • The relevant authority will then send you an appointment for a consultation.
  • Please bring all necessary documents, preferably in original form, to the appointment.
  • The relevant authority will verify your identity and documents.
  • The responsible authority will involve other authorities if necessary.
  • You pay the necessary fees.
  • If your application is approved, your fingerprints, signature and a biometric photo will be taken to produce the Mobile ICT card.
  • The responsible authority commissions an external body, the Federal Printing Office, to produce the Mobile ICT card.
  • Once your Mobile ICT card is ready, you can pick it up in person from the responsible office. The responsible office will contact you to schedule an appointment.
  • If your application is rejected, you will receive a rejection notice stating the reasons for the rejection.

Processing time

The processing time varies depending on the individual case and can take several weeks.

Fees

The fees amount to 80.00 EUR.


Under certain conditions, a reduction or waiver of fees may be considered.


Additional fees may apply.


The timing and form of fee collection and payment vary depending on the authority.

Due to the current risk of infection with the coronavirus (Covid-19), visits by appointment are currently only possible! If you would like to collect your electronic residence permit, please contact us in writing to make an appointment.



If you would like to apply for a residence permit, you can use an existing self-registration terminal (Speed Capture Terminal) to record the necessary biometric data (photo, signature, fingerprints).

Cost: 6 euros.

Please allow a few minutes more time to enter your data before your appointment if you want to use the self-registration terminal.
