Detailed description

If your ship is registered in the ship register, you can apply for its deletion under certain conditions. This ensures that the register does not contain any outdated or incorrect information.

 

Information

Prerequisites

  • The ship is either completely destroyed or unusable.
  • The inland vessel no longer has a home port in Germany.
  • There are no rights such as ship mortgages that could prevent the cancellation or
    • The mortgage creditor(s) agree to the cancellation.
  • The registration of the ship was voluntary.
  • The ship has lost the right to fly the German flag.

Documents required

  • Application for deletion from the ship register
  • Proof of the complete destruction or sinking of the ship
  • If applicable, a certificate from the competent authority confirming its unsuitability for use.
  • Ship's certificate (for inland vessels)
  • Ship certificate and, if applicable, an officially certified extract from the ship certificate (for seagoing vessels)
  • Publicly certified release authorization from the ship mortgage holders (if applicable) together with publicly certified release authorization from the owner.
  • For seagoing vessels: proof of the loss of the right to fly the German flag

You do not need any further documents if the ship has been voluntarily registered in the ship register.

In Germany, the ship register is maintained by various local courts, not by a central register. Jurisdiction is determined by the ship's home port or registered office. Hamburg has the largest ship register in Germany. It is maintained digitally.

Procedure

  • They ensure that all prerequisites for deletion are met.
  • They submit the written application for deletion from the ship register to the ship register.
  • They submit the necessary documentation.
  • The registry court examines the application and the documents, in particular whether third-party rights, such as ship mortgages, preclude deletion.
  • After successful inspection, the ship will be officially removed from the ship register.
  • You will receive a notification of the deletion and, upon request, an additional certificate of deletion.

The processing time depends on the individual case.

  • 20 EUR for the certificate of cancellation
