Apply for an extension of a residence permit for persons entitled under the EEC/Türkiye Association Agreement

Prerequisites

• They possess Turkish citizenship, live in Germany with a residence permit, and have been working for the same employer for at least one year or
• They belong to the family of a person living and working in Germany with Turkish nationality, themselves also possess Turkish nationality and have been living in Germany for at least three years with a residence permit for family reunification.

Documents required

• valid passport or passport replacement of your country of origin
• biometric passport photo in electronic form
  • You can have your passport photo taken on-site. A photo booth is available.
  • You can have a passport photo taken by a certified photographer, who will then make it available electronically to the relevant authority via a cloud.
• Additional evidence of employment in Germany (e.g., employment contract, employment certificate, salary slips)
• Additional proof for family members: documentary evidence of kinship (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate; for foreign documents with translation and apostille or legalization)

Procedure

• They use the provided online service to apply for the extension of their residence permit and to upload the required documents.
• The relevant authority will then send you an appointment for a consultation.
• Please bring all necessary documents, preferably in original form, to the appointment.
• The relevant authority will verify your identity and documents.
• The responsible authority will involve other authorities if necessary.
• You pay the necessary fees.
• If your application is approved, your fingerprints, signature and a biometric photo will be taken for the production of the electronic residence permit (eAT).
• The responsible authority commissions an external body, the Federal Printing Office, to produce your eAT.
• Once your electronic residence permit (eAT) is ready, you can collect it in person from the responsible office. The responsible office will contact you to schedule an appointment.
• If your application is rejected, you will receive a rejection notice stating the reasons for the rejection.

Processing time

Processing will begin immediately at the appointment if all documents are complete. The delivery time for the electronic residence permit from the Federal Printing Office is typically two to four weeks.
