Request access to estate files

Prerequisites

• They are involved in the probate proceedings, for example as an heir, executor, legatee, or legatee.
• Unless you are directly involved in the probate proceedings, you must demonstrate a legitimate interest (e.g., by presenting an enforcement order or an invoice). If, upon review of your request, it is determined that the requirements are not met, the responsible local court cannot grant you an appointment to inspect the files.

Procedure

• You can request access to an estate file, including the necessary documents, informally in writing to the responsible authority.
  • They provide the file number.
  • If you do not have a file number, please provide the full name of the deceased person, their date of birth and death, and their last permanent residence.
  • You provide your contact information (phone number or email address) for scheduling an appointment and for follow-up questions.
• As part of a trial operation, it is currently possible to book appointments for file inspection online at the Blankenese District Court in probate matters.
• The responsible authority will review your application. If necessary, they will request further documents or information from you.
• You will receive feedback and a suggested appointment time.
• If necessary, contact the relevant office to adjust the appointment.
• Please bring your valid proof of identity to the appointment.
• You can view the probate file at the relevant office.

Processing time

If all required documents are available, it usually takes 2-3 working days until the appointment for file inspection.
