Have you completed a medical internship abroad? Here's how to have it recognized in Germany.

If you have completed a clinical internship abroad, you can have it recognized in Germany so that it counts toward your medical studies. The responsible body will examine whether your clinical internship abroad meets the requirements of the German licensing regulations, i.e., whether you have gained similar practical experience and activities as you would have during a clinical internship in Germany.

You completed your internship in an outpatient medical care facility or in a hospital.

Form “Certificate concerning practical clinical elective”

Please note

The general practitioner internship may not be completed abroad.

Deadlines

You must complete your internship during the non-teaching periods between the first and second sections of the medical examination.

If you are studying in the model study program, you can sometimes start earlier if you have already successfully completed the required exams, performance assessments and nursing service.

Procedure & Fees

Procedure

You complete the internship.
Your training physician will confirm your activities on the "Certificate Concerning Practical Clinical Elective" form. The activities you have performed must be recorded in English or German.
You must then have certificates and/or stamps from the institution in another language translated by a sworn interpreter in Germany.

The processing time depends on the individual case.
