Have you obtained a professional qualification as a healthcare and nursing assistant abroad and would like to work in this profession in Hamburg? For this, you must have your foreign professional qualification officially recognized.

Detailed description

You must have your qualification as a health and nursing assistant from abroad officially recognized if you wish to work in this profession in Hamburg.

Your qualification must be officially recognized in the country where you completed your training. Informal or non-formal qualifications cannot be officially recognized in Hamburg.

 

Information

Prerequisites

  • Your foreign professional qualification is equivalent to the professional qualification in Hamburg.

Documents required

  • Application form
  • CV
  • Identification document (identity card or passport)
  • Proof of your professional qualifications (for example, certificates, professional diploma)
  • Evidence of the content and duration of your training (for example, Diploma Supplement, Transcript of Records)
  • Evidence of professional experience in the profession
  • Evidence of other relevant qualifications
  • Have you ever submitted an application for recognition? If so, please state at which authority you submitted the application.
  • Do you not yet live or work in the EU, EEA, or Switzerland? Then you may need to provide proof that you intend to work in that profession. Examples of acceptable proof include:
    • Job applications,
    • Invitations to job interviews or
    • a location note from the Central Service Point for Professional Recognition (ZSBA).

If your documents are not in German, you must submit German translations. These translations must be done by publicly appointed or authorized translators.

Please note

Sometimes there are significant differences between professional qualifications. These differences are listed in your notification (adjustment measures). This notification allows you to further qualify yourself in a targeted manner. Upon successful completion of the adjustment measures, your application can be approved.

Procedure

  • They submit an application for recognition to the relevant authority.
  • You submit all necessary documents to the responsible authority. The responsible authority will inform you if further documents are required.
  • The responsible authority will assess whether your foreign professional qualification is equivalent to a professional qualification in Hamburg. In doing so, the authority will also consider your professional experience, other certificates of competence, and qualifications.
  • You will receive a notification with the result of the procedure.

Processing time

If all required documents are submitted, you will usually receive a notification with the result within 3 months.
