Detailed description
The tasks of the State Occupational Safety and Health Inspectorate can be divided into two groups:
- Direct supervision and advice to Hamburg companies and administrations in the implementation of occupational health and safety regulations.
- Tasks which are partly related to occupational safety and health and therefore also contribute to safety and health at work, e.g.:
- Plant safety: Supervision and advice for operators of plants requiring monitoring under the Product Safety Act. This includes elevator systems, pressure equipment, and tank systems.
- Radiation protection: Supervision and advice for operators who use X-rays or radioactive substances in the fields of medicine, technology and research.
- Explosives: Supervision and advice on handling explosive substances, for example storage permits, reliability checks.
- Protection against dismissal: Processing of applications for dismissal of employees on maternity or parental leave.
- Occupational disease proceedings: Preparation of statements in the context of occupational disease proceedings.
- Homework: Enforcement of the Homework Act, i.e., supervision and advice for companies that employ employees in homework. Supervision relates to the review of piece-rate and hourly wages and special payments for homework.
The tasks are carried out in the field and in the office.
- Field service: Inspections of Hamburg companies and administrations, investigation of accidents and special incidents
- Internal services: Documentation of field services, processing of applications, notifications, inquiries, preparation of statements for building applications or applications under the Federal Immission Control Act.
