Prerequisites
Vehicle must have an alternative drive or an alternative energy source.
The vehicle has a Hamburg license plate or was registered in Hamburg with a foreign license plate.
The vehicle must be an electrically operated vehicle in accordance with Section 3 of the Electromobility Act (EmoG) (pure battery electric vehicle, hybrid electric vehicle that can be charged from the outside or fuel cell vehicle).
Documents required
- valid identity card or passport in the original with current confirmation of registration
- the registration certificate part I (vehicle registration) or deregistration confirmation
- the registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
- the license plates
- the appointment confirmation
if an authorized representative submits the application on your behalf:
- the power of attorney in the original with a legible color copy of the vehicle owner's ID
- Authorized representative's ID in the original
Companies must also submit the following documents:
- Proof of company (e.g. an extract from the commercial register, the business registration or, in the case of registered associations, the extract from the register of associations)
if an authorized representative submits the application on your behalf:
- legible color copy of the identity card of the company's authorized signatory
- Authorized representative's ID in the original

You can save money when purchasing and registering an electric vehicle for the first time by applying for an environmental bonus.
Requirements for free parking:
- Display of a parking disc behind the windshield so that the maximum parking time can be monitored
- License plate with an E embossed at the end
- In parking spaces at charging stations, the regulations of the corresponding parking lot signage apply.
When choosing a license plate, please note that in addition to the "HH" for Hamburg, the license plate may contain a maximum of either two middle letters and three numbers, or one middle letter and four numbers. Only then can the required "E" be added. The further registration of an electric vehicle is no different from that of other vehicles.
