Apply for training support additional benefits for trainees with children

If you receive training support under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) and you have a child under the age of 14, you can receive additional benefits under certain conditions.

Detailed description

You will receive training support under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) in the amount of the legally stipulated flat-rate amounts. You will only receive additional funding in exceptional cases. Do you have a child under 14 years old? You can receive a monthly grant of €150 as an additional benefit. Only one parent can apply for this additional benefit if both parents receive BAföG. The additional benefit is a subsidy, so you don't have to repay it. Please remember to include the subsidy in your tax return (if you file one).

You are entitled to training support under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) You have a child under 14 years of age living in your household

Documents required

Application for the additional benefit “Childcare supplement”: Form 04 Additional documents: Child's birth certificate (copy) You will be informed by your office if further documents are required.

Please note

This additional benefit is a subsidy. It does not have to be repaid and can be included in your tax return.

Deadlines

The additional benefit must be submitted with the application for training support under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BaföG). This should be done approximately two months before the start of the training. If a change occurs during the BAföG approval period (e.g. birth of a child), please notify us immediately (at the latest 3 months after the change occurs, so that the additional benefit is also granted from the month of the change).
