Register your residence as a secondary residence

If you move into a secondary residence, you are required to register in person at a location of your choice within a specified period. Further information can be found in the "Links" section.

 

Information

Prerequisites

  • In addition to your main residence, you have moved into another residence in Germany.

Documents required

Documentation is required. Further information can be found in the "Links" section.

Please note

Registering a secondary residence online is not possible.

Deadlines

You must register your new secondary residence within 2 weeks of moving into the apartment.

Procedure

  • You appear in person at the registration office responsible for you or you can be represented by a person with power of attorney.
  • You fill out the registration form and sign it (except in the case of an automated registration form).
  • You submit all the required documents.
  • Finally, you will receive an official registration confirmation from the registration office about the registration of your new secondary residence.

To register your place of residence electronically, call up the online service and log in to the online service with your user account. The further procedure is described there.

Processing time


  • The processing time is usually 12 minutes.

  • Online: Processing time is approximately 5 minutes.

For this service you can choose the Hamburg Service - regardless of where you live.

Mon-Fri 7am-7pm, visits are only possible by appointment. You can book an appointment online (https://www.hamburg.de/go/17584) or by phone at 040 115.

If you would like to apply for an identity card, passport or children's passport, you can use an existing self-recording terminal (Speed Capture Terminal) to capture the necessary biometric data (digital photo, signature, fingerprints).


Please allow a few minutes more time before your appointment to collect your data.


Note: You will not receive a printout of the digital photo.


There is no need to bring a passport photo with you when using the self-registration terminal.


Use costs 6 euros.


Please speak to the clerk afterwards.


Danger!


The existing self-recording terminal (Speed Capture Terminal) cannot be used for fishing licenses and driver's license applications. Please bring a passport photo (biometric) with you for these services.
