Amalgam separator planned discharge or change of wastewater discharge

As the operator of a dental practice or clinic, you have certain reporting obligations with regard to your amalgam separator.

Detailed description

During dental treatment, amalgam residues from dental fillings can enter the wastewater of the treatment area. As the operator of a dental practice or dental clinic, you must ensure that your amalgam load is reduced. For this reason, an approved amalgam separator must be installed and operated in the wastewater drain of your respective treatment areas.

You have certain reporting obligations in connection with the discharge of waste water from your amalgam separators.

  • You must report the planned discharge of waste water from a newly installed amalgam separator.
  • You must report the replacement of an amalgam separator in an already reported discharge, unless it is a 1:1 replacement.
  • You must report the decommissioning of an amalgam separator.
  • You must change the operator of the dental practice or dental clinic.
