Apply for funding in day care facilities and child day care

Do you want to register your child with a childminder?
There is a legal right to so-called early childhood education when the child is 1 year old. Places for early childhood education include crèches, kindergartens, after-school care centers and child day care centers.

Detailed description

Child day care includes the care and support of your child in a child day care facility (crèche, kindergarten, after-school care) or a child day care center.
The child day care facilities have the following tasks:

  • They promote the child’s development into a self-determined, independent and socially capable personality.
  • They support and complement the upbringing and education within the family.
  • They help parents to better reconcile employment, raising children and caring for their families.

The support mandate includes the upbringing, education and care of the child. It relates to the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of the child. It includes the imparting of guiding values and rules.
The support should be based on the following characteristics of the children:

  • Old
  • level of development
  • linguistic and other skills
  • life situation
  • interests and needs
  • ethnic origin.

The placement of a childcare place in a child day care facility takes place in cooperation with the responsible local provider of public youth welfare services.

 

Information

Prerequisites

A child who is 1 year old or older is entitled to early childhood education in a day care facility or child day care center until their 3rd birthday. If both parents cannot look after their child themselves, children under 1 year old may already be entitled to early childhood education. This is the case, for example, if both parents work.
From the age of 3 until the start of school, the child is entitled to support in a day care facility.

  • Completed application, proof of your employment (employer certificate) or the
  • employment contract (not older than 1 year),

  • Initial applications 3 months before the start of care

  • Follow-up application must be submitted 3 months before expiry.

Procedure

Parents should contact the responsible authority in good time to find out whether there are any free childcare places. Personal contact or getting to know each other personally with the childcare provider is a good idea and is usually possible. Many childminders offer to meet their childcare provider before registering. After registration, the available places are allocated according to the local rules.
