If you intentionally provide false information in your report or falsely accuse someone, this can have serious legal consequences. You will then be committing a criminal offense. If you knowingly or carelessly make a false report, you could be required to pay the costs of the proceedings and the expenses of the person concerned.
If your report leads to an administrative offence procedure, you must expect that your name will be mentioned and you may have to testify as a witness.
Deadlines
Traffic violations are subject to a statute of limitations. This is usually three months from the day the offense was committed. If no proceedings are initiated within this period, the violation can no longer be prosecuted.
