Detailed description
If you want to enter into a marriage under German law, you must enter into a civil marriage with each other.
The marriage ceremony is performed by a registrar.
It can take place in the registry office or outside the registry office.
The couple getting married must be present in person. Witnesses can be appointed. The marriage is concluded when you declare to the registrar that you wish to enter into marriage with each other.
You must first register your marriage with the registry office of your place of residence.
In Hamburg, you can also get married on selected Saturdays in the registry office or outside the registry office. With the exception of the districts of Wandsbek and Bergedorf, the Hamburg registry offices offer Saturday appointments. Ask the registry office of your choice whether appointments are available on the Saturday you want.
Registration for this is only possible six months before the desired date.
