Apply for funding to participate in cultural, social and educational activities for children, adolescents and young adults receiving asylum benefits

If you need financial support to participate in school, daycare, childcare and leisure activities as well as tutoring, meals and transportation, you can receive benefits for education and participation under certain conditions.

  •

Detailed description

You can receive financial support for various activities through the benefits of the education and participation package. The funding is aimed at children, teenagers and young adults.

The benefits from the education and participation package are approved as part of certain social benefits. Asylum seeker benefits are one of these social benefits. If you are entitled to benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act, you can apply for financial support from the education and participation package regardless of your age. The funding applies to the following areas:

Up to a maximum of 18 years of age:

  • Participation in social and cultural life, for example in a sports club or music school, is supported with up to EUR 15.00 per month.

Up to a maximum of 25 years of age:

  • For one-day trips from schools, day care centers and child day care, the actual costs will be reimbursed.
  • For trips lasting several days from day care centers and child day care facilities as well as for class trips within the framework of school law, the actual costs will be covered.
  • The provision of personal school supplies is subsidized with two lump sums each year at the start of the school year. The amount differs between the first and second school semesters.
  • The actual expenses required for transport to the nearest school for the chosen course of study (student monthly tickets) will be covered.
  • Costs will be covered for additional appropriate learning support to the extent that it is necessary to achieve the learning objectives set out in school law.
  • Expenses for communal lunches for pupils (if under school responsibility) and for children in day-care centres and child day care are paid.

Information

Prerequisites

  • You or the affected children, adolescents or young adults:
    • receive asylum seeker benefits,
    • attend a general or vocational school, a day care facility or child day care.
  • Upper age limit for participation in cultural, sports and leisure activities in the community: 18 years

Personal school supplies

  • For children under 7 years of age or if the child attends a secondary school after the 10th grade, you must provide a school certificate.

School transport

  • The costs are not fully covered by third parties, such as the school authority. If only part of the travel costs are covered by third parties, only the personal contribution can be reimbursed.
  • The distance between your place of residence and your school or institution is greater than the relevant regulated minimum distance.
  • Under certain circumstances, the nearest institution may also have a special focus, such as a sports or language profile, or it may be a Waldorf school.

Extracurricular learning support

  • The school must confirm that you need additional learning support. If there are school-based offers, you must use them as a priority. It does not matter whether your promotion is at risk.
  • Learning support is offered by a suitable provider or a suitable private person.

Communal lunch

  • You or your child attend a school, a daycare center, a child day care facility or an after-school care center.
  • Lunch is provided by the institution or is agreed upon through a cooperation agreement with the institution (for example between the school and the day-care center).
  • The food is served and eaten communally.

Documents required

  • If you receive benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act (AsylbLG), you do not need to submit an application. During the approval period for benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act, you only need to submit proof of the desired education and participation benefits. An exception is the application for learning support. In this case, a separate application must be submitted if necessary.
  • Notice regarding receipt of benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act (AsylbLG)
