Detailed description

If you intend to

  • to build a facility in which substances hazardous to water are to be handled or
  • wish to make significant changes to an existing facility for handling water-polluting substances, or
  • Plan measures that could influence the hazard level of such a facility,

you must notify the relevant authority in advance. The purpose of the notification is to ensure that all relevant official requirements and environmental protection regulations are complied with in order to minimize potential risks and ensure the safe handling of substances hazardous to water.

Prerequisites

Your facility must comply with the requirements of the Ordinance on Facilities for Handling Substances Hazardous to Water (AwSV). You must prove this with the documents you submit.

Documents required

  • Detailed documents describing the project (site plan, drawings, evidence, descriptions)
  • If necessary, expert opinion

Please note

You do not have to report the construction of a facility if

  • a suitability assessment is requested for this facility under the Water Resources Act or
  • the plant is subject to an approval procedure under other legal provisions, provided that the approval procedure also ensures that the requirements of this regulation are met. In this case, significant changes to the plant that require approval are also not subject to notification.

Deadlines

6 weeks before commissioning or implementation of the change measure.

Procedure

  • You submit the report via the online service. Alternatively, you can send your report in writing to the responsible authority.
  • The responsible authority will check your documents for completeness and for compliance with the content requirements and will request any missing information or documents from you if necessary.
  • The responsible authority can prohibit the project temporarily or permanently or issue a decision with conditions. You will be informed accordingly in writing.

Processing time

The processing time depends on the quality and volume of the documents you submit.
