Prerequisites
You are obliged to appoint a person responsible for water protection if you
- discharge more than 750 cubic metres of wastewater in one day or
- discharge less than 750 cubic metres of wastewater in one day, but have been requested by the competent authority to appoint a person responsible for water protection or
- operate a facility for storing, filling, producing and treating substances hazardous to water or a facility for using substances hazardous to water in the commercial sector or in the area of public institutions or
- operate a pipeline system.
The person responsible for water protection must have the necessary specialist knowledge in order to be able to fulfil the tasks according to Section 65 of the Water Resources Act (WHG).
Documents required
Proof of the necessary specialist knowledge through a suitable course or further training.
Please note
If you have already appointed an emission control officer or a waste management officer, this person can also perform the tasks and duties of a water protection officer.

The authority’s order is not subject to any time limits.
