Registration for the preschool class begins with the interview of the four-and-a-half-year-olds at the school in November and usually ends at the end of January. The exact dates are always announced by the schools at the end of the year.
Registration for class 1 also takes place directly at the desired primary school in January. The exact deadlines will be announced by the primary schools at the end of the year.
In Hamburg, you can choose whether your child should attend preschool at a daycare center (Kita) or a preschool class at a primary school in the last year before starting school.
The regional primary school invites the parents and their child to an interview.
The preschools in Hamburg are merely an offer and not a service to which one is entitled - unless there is a need for language support according to Section 28a of the Hamburg School Act (HmbSG).
Attending a preschool class does not automatically lead to admission to the 1st grade at the same school.
