Apply for approval for the delivery of radioactive waste for emplacement in the state collecting facility

If you want to dispose of radioactive residues or waste from the medical, research and commercial sectors, you need a permit to deliver radioactive waste for storage at the state collection point.

Detailed description

  • To dispose of or hand over radioactive waste to the state collection point, you require approval from the responsible authority.
  • If you have the approval, you are responsible for organizing the delivery to the state collection point.
  • If you transport radioactive waste to the state collection point by road, you must pay attention to the requirements of the dangerous goods law.

  • Written application for the delivery of solid radioactive substances for storage in the state collection point.
  • Transport option that meets the requirements of dangerous goods legislation.

Please note

  • The city of Hamburg and the state of Schleswig-Holstein operate a joint state collection point in Geesthacht.
  • If the radioactive waste delivered does not meet the acceptance conditions of the state collection point and therefore cannot be accepted, the state collection point will inform the applicant and, if possible, provide information about other disposal methods.

Procedure

  • You fill out the relevant application form completely and send it to the responsible authority.
  • The competent authority checks whether the conditions for accepting the radioactive waste are met.
  • If necessary, the responsible authority will request further documents or information from you.
  • If all documents are available and the requirements for acceptance are met, you will receive written approval from the responsible authority.
  • You will then contact the state collection point to coordinate the date and details of the delivery.
  • If the conditions for acceptance are not met, the responsible authority will ask you to bring the waste into a condition that complies with these regulations.
  • The notice will be sent to you by email or post.
  • The fee notice will be sent to you separately.

Processing time

Processing usually takes 2 to 4 weeks

Fees

The costs are based on the current Hamburg environmental fee schedule. In addition, a final storage fee must be paid. Both are calculated according to the volume of the waste per liter. The repository fee is recalculated annually.

Legal remedies

Objection within one month of receipt of the decision.


The unsuccessful objection procedure is subject to a fee.
