Detailed description

If you want to work in a secure area of an airport, you need access authorization – a so-called airport pass. This allows you to stay alone in the secure areas that are important for your work.


For example, the following people can receive access authorization:

  • Pilots
  • Flight students
  • Suppliers, dealers and cleaning companies
  • Security check personnel
  • handling employees
  • Transport personnel
  • Air cargo screening personnel.

The security areas include:

  • Waiting areas for screened passengers
  • Checked baggage areas
  • Zones for aircraft boarding and disembarking or loading and unloading.
 

Information

Prerequisites

  • You have a positive background check.
  • You have successfully completed the required training.

Documents required

  • Copy of identification document front and back (identity card or passport)
  • Evidence of completed training courses
  • Notice of a previously passed background check (if applicable)
  • Copy of the decision of a previous background check or equivalent check (if applicable)

If necessary, further documents may be requested from you.

Please note

Access authorization is time-limited and only valid for certain security areas.


Your access authorization may be revoked if reasons arise later, for example if your reliability is not verified.


The ID card may not be passed on to other persons.


In case of loss or theft, you must report it immediately.

Deadlines

Please submit your application at least one month before you start work in connection with the background check.


However, depending on the airport, longer or shorter deadlines may apply. Please check with the relevant office for details.

Procedure

  • You submit an application to the responsible authority in writing or electronically. (You can submit the application for access authorization and the application for a background check at the same time.)
  • Procedure for a written application:
    • You fill out the form completely and have it confirmed by your employer.
    • You submit the application to the airport operator yourself or through your employer.
    • The responsible authority will examine your application and, if necessary, forward it to the relevant aviation security authority.
    • You will be informed of the results of the background check.
    • If the result is positive, you will receive an access authorization in the form of an airport ID card, which you must collect in person at the relevant office.
  • Procedure for submitting an electronic application:
    • You create a free service account in the Hamburg Service Portal.
    • You fill out the online application and upload all supporting documents.
    • You send the application digitally to the responsible authority.
    • For employees: Print out the application form after completion, sign it, and send it by post to the authority.
    • The responsible authority will examine your application and, if necessary, forward it to the relevant aviation security authority.
    • You will be informed of the results of the background check.
    • If the result is positive, you will receive an access authorization in the form of an airport ID card, which you must collect in person at the relevant office.
