If you move out of your apartment and do not move into another apartment in Germany, you must deregister.

Detailed description

If you move out of your apartment and do not move to another apartment in Germany or do not live in Germany for more than 1 year, you must deregister.

If you no longer have a permanent residence or give up a secondary residence without replacement, you must deregister with your registration authority.

If you move within Germany, you do not have to deregister. It is sufficient to register with the registration authority at your new place of residence.

If you are under 16 years of age, you must be deregistered by the person whose home you are moving out of.
From the age of 16, you can unsubscribe without the consent of your legal guardian.

You will receive an official confirmation of your deregistration from your apartment.

 

Information

Prerequisites

  • You are moving out of your apartment and no longer have a permanent residence in Germany or
  • You give up a secondary residence without replacement or
  • You are staying abroad for more than 1 year.

Documents required

Please provide the following documents when deregistering in person:

  • valid identity cards or passports of all persons aged 16 and over to be deregistered

You can be represented by an authorised person. The authorised person must present your identity card or passport as well as their own original identity card or passport.

Please submit the following documents if you deregister in writing in paper form by post:

  • unsubscribe form
  • Copy of the valid identity cards or passports of all persons aged 16 and over to be deregistered

Please note

As a landlord, you can have the responsible authority officially deregister people who no longer live in your apartment. The responsible authority will check the actual living conditions before deregistering.

If you deregister your secondary residence in Hamburg, you must also deregister it from the second home tax.

The official registration confirmation contains the following information:

  • Surname, first name, if applicable, stage name or doctoral degree
  • birth date
  • Move-in or move-out date
  • Date of registration or deregistration
  • Indication of whether it is a sole residence, a main residence or a secondary residence

Deadlines


  • You can deregister your apartment at the earliest 7 days before you move out.

  • You must deregister your apartment no later than 2 weeks after you move out.

Procedure

You can unsubscribe personally:

  • You can make an appointment online or by calling 115.
  • You bring all necessary documents with you to the appointment and present them.
  • You deregister your place of residence.
  • Your address will be deregistered from the residents' register.
  • Your address will be changed in your official documents.
  • You will receive a registration confirmation.

You can unsubscribe in writing in paper form by post:

  • You fill out the deregistration form and sign it.
  • You send the deregistration form together with a copy of your valid ID to the responsible office.
  • Your address will be deregistered from the residents' register.
  • Your address will be changed in your official documents.
  • You will receive a registration confirmation.

You can apply for this service at any Hamburg Service location, regardless of where you live.

Mon-Fri 7am-7pm, visits are only possible by appointment. You can book an appointment online (https://www.hamburg.de/go/17584) or by phone at 040 115.

On Friday, November 22, 2024, all locations for resident affairs will be closed from 12:00 p.m. The reason for this is extensive technical conversion work.
Please note that the collection of identification documents that have already been requested is only possible until 12:00 noon on this day.

If you would like to apply for an identity card, passport or children's passport, you can use an existing self-recording terminal (speed capture terminal) in the customer center to capture the necessary biometric data (digital photo, signature, fingerprints).
Please allow a few minutes more time before your appointment to collect your data.
Note: You will not receive a printout of the digital photo.
There is no need to bring a passport photo with you when using the self-registration terminal.
Use costs 6 euros.
Please speak to the clerk afterwards.

The existing self-recording terminal (Speed Capture Terminal) cannot be used for fishing licenses and driver's license applications. Please bring a passport photo (biometric) with you for these services.
