Report loss of weapons, ammunition or permits

If you have lost a weapon, ammunition or a firearms permit, such as a firearm ownership card or a firearms license, you must report this to the responsible firearms authority.

If you

  • weapons requiring a permit,
  • ammunition requiring a permit or
  • firearms permits
    • firearms license,
    • Ammunition purchase permit,
    • gun license,
    • Small firearms license,
    • Shooting permit,
    • European Firearms Pass,
    • Replacement certificate for firearm ownership card or firearm license,
    • other permits (weapons trading or manufacturing permit, permit to carry or transport weapons, special permit for carrying weapons at public events)

you must report this to the relevant authority. You can report the loss of several weapons, ammunition and permits in one report.



In addition, you must report to the police that you have lost weapons, ammunition or permits.

Prerequisites

You have lost at least one weapon, ammunition or firearms license.

Documents required

  • Identity card or passport (copy)

Please note

If you report that you have lost permit documents, you should also request that replacement documents be issued to you at the same time as the report.



If you find the weapons and permits again, you must report this to the relevant weapons authority. You must return any replacement documents that may have been issued.



To fill out the form more quickly, you can use the NWR identification numbers (NWR-ID):

  • Your PersonalNWR-ID (P- or F-NWR-ID) for your personal information
  • the permit NWR-ID for the firearms permit (E-NWR-ID)
  • the weapon or weapon part NWR ID (W or T NWR ID).

You will receive the NWR IDs upon application to the responsible weapons authority.

Deadlines

You must report the loss immediately.

  • You report the loss of the weapon, ammunition or firearms permit to the responsible firearms authority.
  • The responsible authority will keep your report on file.
