Report transfer of weapons or ammunition to an authorized person

If you give someone else weapons or ammunition that require a permit, you must notify the relevant authorities.

Detailed description

If you give your weapon or ammunition, which requires a permit, to someone else, you must report this to the relevant authority.



There are exceptions where you do not have to report the transfer:

  • If you temporarily hand over essential parts of the weapon to have cosmetic repairs or similar work carried out and get them back after the work is completed.
  • If you pass on weapons or ammunition as part of a training or employment relationship.
  • If you temporarily leave weapons or ammunition for shooting at a shooting range.

Prerequisites

You have a gun ownership card (WBK)

Documents required

  • Identity card or passport (copy)
  • Weapons ownership card (WBK)
  • if applicable: European Firearms Pass

Please note

To fill out the ad quicker, you can use the NWR identification numbers (NWR-ID):

  • Your personal NWR ID (P or F NWR ID) for personal information
  • the permit NWR ID for the weapons law permit (E-NWR ID)
  • the weapon or weapon part NWR ID (W or T NWR ID).

You will receive the NWR IDs upon request from the responsible weapons authority.

  • You report the handing over of a weapon or ammunition to the responsible authority.
  • The competent authority will delete the corresponding entry from your firearms ownership card and, if applicable, also from your European Firearms Pass.
