Detailed description

If you operate an airport or provide security services at an airport, you can apply for recertification for aviation security screening officers from the relevant authority. This authority will confirm, through a formal examination, that the person in question remains qualified to perform their duties.


Aviation security control officers receive continuous training, particularly on:

  • Legal basis,
  • control processes,
  • X-ray image evaluation and
  • new threat scenarios.

After successfully completing the test, security checkpoint personnel receive a recertification certificate.


Only with this proof can they work in the aviation security sector.

  • The aviation security control officers working for you have a positive background check and have completed training over the last three years.

  • Procedure for a written application:
    • You submit a written application and all necessary documents to the responsible authority.
    • The responsible authority will review the documents and request further documents from you if necessary.
    • You make an appointment for the image evaluation test.
    • If the result is positive, you will receive the recertification certificate.
  • Procedure for submitting an electronic application
    • You access the online service and select the application type “Recertification of aviation security control officers.”
    • You fill out the online application and upload all supporting documents.
    • You send the application digitally to the responsible authority.
    • The responsible authority will review the documents and request further documents from you if necessary.
    • You make an appointment for the image evaluation test.
    • If the result is positive, you will receive the recertification certificate.
