Detailed description
As climate change progresses, the frequency and intensity of heavy rain events will increase. Heavy rain is defined as precipitation in which a large amount of rain falls in a very short period of time. The amount of water can exceed the capacity of the sewer network, ditches, and private and public property drainage systems and waterways. The water then threatens to flow onto properties via various flow paths and, among other things, enter buildings. The water causes damage to property and infrastructure.
The administration, but also you as citizens, must adapt to this development. In Hamburg, the "RISA" (Rain Infrastructure Adaptation) project is developing action plans for heavy rain events. The aim is to keep the damage that could be caused by heavy rain events as low as possible. A team of experts from the environmental agency and Hamburg Water will provide you with information on heavy rain prevention.
