Detailed description

If you have inherited weapons or ammunition and want to keep them, you must

  • apply for the issuance of a firearms license for the firearms that are part of the estate and require a permit, or
  • apply for the inherited weapons to be entered into your already issued firearms ownership card.

As a community of heirs, you can also apply for a joint gun ownership card. If not all heirs want to inherit the weapons, these people must declare that they are waiving the inheritance. In order to receive the joint gun ownership card, all members of the community of heirs must meet all the actual and legal requirements for the issuance of the gun ownership card.

Information

Prerequisites

  • You are of the appropriate age to own the respective weapon
  • They have an understandable need to own weapons
  • They are reliable under firearms law
  • You are personally suitable
  • You are knowledgeable in handling weapons and ammunition
  • You can store the weapons and ammunition safely

  • only in the case of a community of heirs: if necessary, a declaration of waiver that the other members of the community of heirs do not wish to own the weapons

Please note

If you have inherited weapons or ammunition, you must report this to the relevant authorities immediately, regardless of whether you wish to continue to keep the weapons.

If you cannot prove that you need the inherited weapons, you must either render the weapons unusable or have them fitted with an advanced blocking system. Ammunition that requires a permit must also be rendered unusable or handed over to an authorized person. All modifications to the inherited weapons must be carried out by a specialist. You must report these changes to the relevant authority. If there is no suitable blocking system available on the market for one or more inherited weapons, exceptions to the blocking requirement can be applied for under certain conditions.

You could be considered unsafe under firearms law if you

  • have been sentenced to a term of imprisonment of at least one year in the last 10 years,
