Participation in an advanced training course for novice drivers

If you violate traffic regulations during your probationary period, you may have to attend a refresher course.

Detailed description

From the date your driver's license is first issued, you will be subject to a two-year probationary period. If you drive without making any mistakes or violating the Road Traffic Act (StVO) during this period, your probationary period will automatically expire. However, if you commit one or two less serious traffic violations during this period, you will be required to complete a refresher course at a driving school.

Prerequisites

  • You have your main residence in Hamburg
  • You are in the probationary period
  • You have committed one serious or two less serious violations of the Road Traffic Act and have subsequently been ordered to attend a refresher course

Documents required

Confirmation of participation after you have attended the advanced seminar.

Procedure

  • The responsible authority will examine your violation(s) and decide whether you need to take a refresher course.
  • You will be ordered to attend a follow-up seminar
  • You register at a driving school that offers advanced training courses.
  • You take part in the advanced seminar.
  • You will receive a confirmation of participation.
  • Please send the original confirmation of participation by mail to the institution that arranged the advanced seminar. We recommend sending it by registered mail with a return receipt.

The processing time depends on the individual case.

Fees

Participation in the advanced seminar is subject to a fee. The costs depend on the selected driving school.
