Supplementary rehabilitation services for those with health insurance

Health insurance covers the costs of additional rehabilitation services.

Detailed description

You can receive supplementary rehabilitation services in addition to medical rehabilitation. You can also receive supplementary rehabilitation services without having previously undergone rehabilitation. Your health insurance provider will provide you with supplementary rehabilitation services.

  • according to medical necessity and
  • on medical orders.

Additional services include, for example:

  • Patient education for chronically ill patients, such as:
    • outpatient asthma training,
    • Obesity education programs,
  • Rehabilitation sports and functional training,
  • socio-medical aftercare measures for chronically ill or seriously ill children and adolescents.
  • The services must be medically necessary and prescribed by a doctor.

Prerequisites

  • You must be required to provide supplementary rehabilitation services in order to achieve or secure the goal of rehabilitation.
  • Medical treatment must already have been provided or will still be provided by the health insurance company.

Documents required

  • Application to your health insurance company for additional rehabilitation benefits
  • Prescription or statement from your treating physician

  • As a rule, your doctor will issue you with a prescription for additional rehabilitation services.
  • You then submit the application and prescription to the health insurance company.
  • If your health insurance company covers the costs, you will receive a cost confirmation from the health insurance company.
