Prerequisites
- You are licensed as a doctor.
- You have completed specialist training or training acquired in another EU Member State in accordance with Directive 2005/36 EC.
To be registered as a psychological psychotherapist you also need:
- You are qualified as a psychological psychotherapist.
- You have obtained a qualification in the guideline procedure of psychotherapy.
Documents required
- birth certificate
- Certificates that prove a possible change of name or the right to use a double name (e.g. marriage certificate)
- license to practice medicine
- if applicable, certificate of completion of studies
- Certificate of specialist recognition or qualification in the guideline procedure for psychotherapy
- Evidence/certificates of previous medical/psychotherapeutic activity
- Certificates of completed training
- Doctoral certificate or proof of the right to use academic degrees or titles
- if applicable, proof of nationality
- for foreign-language documents: translation by a state-recognized translator or a translator who is court-appointed in Germany
- for documents from third countries (outside the European Union): apostille or legalisation
You must submit the original documents or an officially certified copy. The medical register can, under certain circumstances, produce corresponding certifications.

Registration in the medical register of a statutory health insurance association is not the same as registration in the register maintained by the state medical association.
