Have you been unemployed for a long time, perhaps have health limitations, and would like to return to work? A work opportunity offers you the chance to perform an activity that prepares you for employment in the job market.

Detailed description

Upon your request, the responsible authority can offer you a so-called work opportunity. This means that you will undertake a temporary activity organized, for example, by an educational institution, a non-profit organization, or a charitable company. These jobs are primarily intended to improve your employability and benefit the general public.

If you accept a work opportunity, you will receive financial support in addition to your citizen's allowance, for example, for travel expenses or work clothes (additional expense allowance). You will have fixed tasks and regular working hours, which can give structure to your daily life. Furthermore, you will learn new skills and meet new people, gaining experience that will help you later when looking for work. At the same time, you will be doing something that benefits the community.

  • They receive citizen's income.
  • This work opportunity will help you prepare to return to the job market, and no other benefit is suitable for you.
  • They have not been assigned more than 24 months of work opportunities within the last 5 years.

Please note

  • The actual possibility of accepting a work opportunity is at the discretion of the responsible authority. This means you have no legal entitlement to a work opportunity.
  • You are covered by accident insurance through the organization or provider of your work opportunity.
  • If you receive benefits from the organization sponsoring your work opportunity that you would otherwise have to pay for yourself, such as a monthly travel pass, your additional expense allowance will be reduced accordingly.
  • If you receive additional financial benefits from the organization or provider of your work opportunity, this will be considered income and will be deducted from your citizen's allowance.
  • You will only receive the additional expense allowance for hours in which you actually worked in the job opportunity, i.e. not for sick days, vacation days, weekends and public holidays.

Deadlines

A work opportunity typically lasts up to 24 months. It can be extended by up to 12 months.

Procedure

  • You arrange an appointment with the relevant authority and describe your request.
  • The responsible authority will assign you a work matter.
  • The responsible authority will explain the nature, scope, and duration of the work to you and inform you at whose company you will be performing the work. Your interests will also be taken into account.
  • The responsible authority will also inform you of the details of the job opportunity in writing.
