Apply for approval for demolition and remediation work on weakly bound asbestos products

If you want to carry out renovation or demolition work in the presence of asbestos in a weakly bound form (high fibre release), you will need a permit, which you must apply for from the responsible authority.

Detailed description

You need a permit for renovation or demolition work in the presence of asbestos with high levels of fiber release. This applies in particular to work where asbestos is present in a weakly bound form or during work where a high number of asbestos fibers can be released.

 

Information

Prerequisites

  • They have appropriate personnel and safety equipment.
  • They meet the requirements of the Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances (TRGS) 519 on the handling of asbestos in order to protect people from the health hazards posed by asbestos.

Documents required

  • Proof of expertise
  • Activity-related work plans/risk assessment
  • Operating instructions
  • Proof of precaution
  • Personnel and safety equipment (specified in TRGS 519)
  • Test certificates (e.g. device inspections)
  • Proof of possible equipment leasing
  • Proof of practical experience of the supervisor
  • References for renovation work already carried out

The approval is valid for the whole of Germany.

Deadlines

You need approval before you can start demolition or renovation work.

Procedure

You can apply for a permit for renovation or demolition work from the responsible authority.

  • You fill out the application form and submit it with the required documents.
  • The responsible authority will check your application for completeness.
  • If necessary, the responsible authority will request further documents from you.
  • The responsible authority will decide on your application.
  • You will receive a notification.

Processing time

Once you have submitted all the required documents, processing will take 2 to 4 weeks.

Fees

Fees apply. The amount of the fees is between 100 euros and 1,000 euros.
