Apply for a loan or subsidy for training

If you find yourself in a financial emergency during your training, you may be eligible for financial support under certain conditions.

Detailed description

You can receive support in the form of goods or cash benefits. Sometimes it may also be a loan that you will have to repay later. Possible benefits that you may be eligible for include:

  • Benefits for additional needs of expectant mothers
  • Coverage of costs for medically necessary nutrition
  • Assumption of costs for exercising visitation rights
  • Essential items for pregnancy and birth
  • Support if exceptional or serious circumstances jeopardize your education or if you find yourself in a life-threatening emergency situation.
  • Accommodation and heating needs
  • Contributions to health and long-term care insurance
  • Bridging financial gaps until you receive your first training allowance or training grant
 

Information

Prerequisites

  • They are trainees or students.
  • You are in a financial emergency situation that you cannot resolve yourself.
  • They are not entitled to other, priority benefits, such as BAföG, vocational training assistance or training allowance, or the benefits are insufficient.

Depending on the specific circumstances of your case, further requirements may apply. The responsible authority will provide you with more detailed information upon request.

Documents required

  • Identity card or valid passport with current registration certificate
  • Proof of income (for example, pay slips, bank statements, benefit notices)
  • Proof of your education or studies (for example, training contract, certificate of enrollment)
  • Proof of existing assets (for example, bank statements, securities, building society contracts)
  • Proof of your ongoing expenses (for example, bank statements, rental agreement, insurance documents)
  • If applicable: Proof of previous benefit receipt (for example, approval notice, proof of benefits)
  • If applicable: Residence permit

Depending on the circumstances of your case, further documents may be required. The responsible authority will inform you.

Please note

You must repay any loans received in the same amount.

Deadlines

There is no deadline. However, benefits will only be granted from the first day of the month in which you submitted the application.




Therefore, please note that you should submit your application as soon as possible when you become aware of your financial hardship or when it is looming, and not only afterwards.

Procedure

  • You contact the relevant authority and describe your request.
  • The responsible authority will inform you about your options and, if applicable, let you know whether you can apply for the benefit.
  • You submit your application along with the necessary documents.
  • The responsible authority will review your application and may request missing documents or information from you.
  • The responsible authority will decide on your application and inform you of the decision in writing.

Approximately 2-4 weeks

Fees

If you have a bank account, the service is free.




If the loan amount is to be paid out to you and you do not have your own bank account, fees may apply. The relevant authority can provide you with more detailed information.
