Apply for the accelerated skilled worker process

If you, as an employer, would like to employ a skilled worker from a third country, you can apply for an accelerated skilled worker procedure.

  •

Detailed description

If you, as an employer, want to hire a skilled worker from a non-EU country, you can use an accelerated procedure to facilitate the skilled worker's entry into Germany and the recognition process.

The accelerated skilled worker procedure is aimed at foreign nationals who wish to come to Germany in order to:

  • to undertake vocational training or further training in the company,
  • to have foreign professional qualifications recognized,
  • to work as a professional with vocational training,
  • to work as a professional with academic training or
  • to take up other qualified employment.

The accelerated procedure is voluntary. The skilled worker must authorize you as the employer to initiate the accelerated procedure. Even if you use the accelerated procedure, there is no guarantee that the skilled worker will receive a visa.

The following points will be examined and processed in the accelerated procedure within shorter periods of time than usual:

  • Residence requirements for entry
  • Recognition of foreign professional or university qualifications
  • approval of the Federal Employment Agency
  • Making an appointment at the responsible foreign representation
  • decision on issuing the visa

Information

Prerequisites

  • The foreign skilled worker and, if applicable, family members have valid passports.
  • An employment or training contract or concrete job offer is available.
  • No visa application has yet been submitted in the country of origin (not even for family members).
  • The professional can finance his/her own living expenses and health insurance in Germany.
  • The specialist has given you power of attorney for the procedure.
  • The specialist is still abroad

The further requirements arise from the intended purpose of your stay and will be communicated to you during the consultation.

Documents required

For individual advice you need:

  • Power of attorney of the foreign specialist
  • if necessary, plus a further power of attorney from which the authority to represent the employer arises
  • Color copy of the foreign skilled worker's national passport
  • diploma and/or proof of training

Further documents to be submitted will be determined during the consultation and communicated to you.

Please note

The local jurisdiction depends on the location of the business premises in which you wish to employ the foreign specialist.
Family members of the professional can also benefit from this procedure under certain conditions.

Deadlines

  • In the recognition procedure, the responsible body decides on the application within 2 months. A one-time extension is possible.

  • The Federal Employment Agency will decide within one week whether to approve the employment.

  • Once the prior approval has been submitted, the German diplomatic mission abroad will arrange an appointment to apply for a visa within 3 weeks and will usually decide on the visa within a further 3 weeks.

Procedure

  • If you have any questions about the accelerated skilled worker procedure, please contact the responsible body or use the online service. The responsible body will advise you on the procedural steps and the necessary involvement of other bodies.
  • To carry out the procedure, you conclude an agreement with the responsible authority.
  • You pay the fee.
  • If necessary, the competent authority initiates the procedure for the recognition of foreign qualifications.
  • If necessary, the responsible authority will obtain the approval of the Federal Employment Agency.
  • The responsible authority checks the residence requirements for the desired purpose of stay and issues a prior approval if all requirements are met.
  • With this prior approval, the foreign professional makes an appointment with the responsible foreign representation and applies for a visa to enter the country.
  • The foreign mission checks the documents for authenticity, involves the security authorities and takes the fingerprints of the foreign specialist.
  • After completing the examination, the foreign mission issues the visa for entry.
