If you, as a slaughterhouse, slaughter at least 50 large livestock units per week or provide workers who supply, stun or bleed the animals for slaughter, you must appoint a responsible authority to the competent authority who will ensure compliance with the requirements of the Animal Welfare Act and the statutory ordinances issued on the basis of this act.
This provision applies e.g. B. to subcontractors who have been commissioned by the slaughterhouse contractor with the activities mentioned. Despite the appointment of a subcontractor with authority to give instructions, the slaughterhouse contractor must also appoint an animal welfare officer.
You should note the following conversion of livestock units:
Adult cattle and solipeds: 1 LU
Other cattle: 0.5 LU
Pigs weighing more than 100 kg: 0.2 LU
Other pigs: 0.15 LU
Sheep and goats: 0.1 LU
Lambs/kids and piglets under 15 kg: 0.05 LU
