Apply for exemption from the permit requirement for discharging wastewater into private wastewater plants

Prerequisites

You must ensure compliance with legal requirements regarding wastewater treatment through a contract with the operator of the private wastewater plant.

Documents required

• Informal application for exemption with further information on the type of wastewater (quantity, ingredients, place of origin)
• Excerpts from the contract documents between you and the operator of the private wastewater system

Please note

For those industries and activities in which pollutants are to be expected in the wastewater that are not sufficiently cleaned in a municipal sewage treatment plant (e.g. chemical industry, paper production, metal processing, use of cooling water), the legislature has set requirements in the respective industry-specific appendices to the Wastewater Ordinance. In order to comply with these requirements, special measures and wastewater pretreatment systems are required to reduce the amount of pollutants so that the wastewater can then be treated without harm in a public or private sewage treatment plant.

No. You must have the exemption before you begin the initiation process. You should therefore submit the application well in advance of the intended start of your project .

Procedure

• You submit your application to the responsible authority and attach the necessary documents.
• If necessary, the responsible authority will request further documents from you.
• The responsible authority will examine your application.
• The decision of the responsible authority will be communicated to you in a written notice.
• You pay an administration fee.

Processing time

The processing time depends on the type and scope of your submitted application. However, you must expect a processing time of up to several months.
