If you are a young person of foreign origin who wants to hunt in Germany and you have not passed a German hunting exam, you can apply for a foreign youth hunting license under certain conditions.

Detailed description

If you are a young foreign citizen and want to hunt in Germany, you need a permit. If you do not take a German hunting exam, you can apply for a foreign youth hunting license under certain conditions. The foreign youth hunting license gives you permission to hunt accompanied by a guardian with hunting experience or a supervisor with hunting experience appointed in writing by your guardian(s). If you want to hunt regularly, you can apply for the foreign youth hunting license as an annual hunting license.

Prerequisites

  • You are in possession of valid hunting licenses from your home country
  • The hunting exam taken in your home country is comparable to the German hunting exam
  • You are at least 16 years old and not yet 18 years old at the time of issue
  • You do not have your main residence in Germany
  • You have the necessary personal reliability
  • You have the necessary physical fitness
  • You have taken out hunting liability insurance
  • Your legal guardians consent

Documents required

  • Proof of identity (e.g. ID card or passport)
  • Hunting license from your home country
  • if applicable, certificate of the hunter’s examination with any additional documents
  • current photograph
  • Proof of statutory hunting liability insurance
  • Consent of your legal guardian or guardians

Please note

With a foreign youth hunting license you are not allowed to take part in group hunts.

Deadlines

The annual hunting license for young people is valid for a maximum of two consecutive hunting years. The hunting year begins on April 1st and ends on March 31st of each calendar year.

Procedure

  • You submit your application in writing or online and provide the necessary documents.
    • If you submit the application in writing, submit it by post or in person to the responsible office.
  • The responsible authority will check your application for completeness and correctness and, if necessary, request any missing documents or information from you.
  • The responsible authority will inform you in writing about the decision on your application.
