If you are a foreign citizen and want to hunt in Germany, you usually need a German hunting license. If you have not taken a hunting exam in Germany, you must apply for a foreign hunting license. If you want to hunt regularly in Germany, you can apply for this in the form of an annual hunting license.

 

Information

Prerequisites

  • You are at least 18 years old when issuing the permit
  • You are a foreign citizen and your main residence is not in Germany
  • You have the necessary personal reliability
  • You have the necessary physical fitness
  • You have taken out hunting liability insurance
  • You have taken a hunting exam abroad that is comparable to the German hunting exam
  • You are in possession of a valid hunting license from your home country

Documents required

  • Proof of identity (e.g. ID card or passport)
  • Hunting license from your home country
  • if applicable, certificate of the hunter’s examination with additional documents
  • current photograph
  • Proof of statutory hunting liability insurance

There are no special features.

Deadlines

The annual hunting license is valid for a maximum of three consecutive hunting years. The hunting year begins on April 1st and ends on March 31st of each calendar year.

Procedure

  • You submit your application in writing or online and provide the necessary documents.

  • The responsible authority will check your application for completeness and correctness and, if necessary, request any missing documents or information from you.
