If you want to collect, transport or trade in waste, you must notify the competent authority of this activity.

If you collect, transport, trade or broker waste, you must report this activity to the competent authority.



If you have already reported your activity and your details have changed significantly, you must submit the report again



The notification obligation applies to both national and cross-border waste shipments.

 

Information

Prerequisites

You would like to pursue a waste management activity and collect, transport, trade or broker waste

Documents required

  • if already issued to you: your waste disposal company number(s) as a collector, transporter, broker or dealer of waste
  • if you want to create a change notification, additionally: the transaction number of your initial notification
  • if there is an obligation to register a business: your business registration
  • if an application has been made: an extract from the commercial, association or cooperative register

If you are exempt from the requirement to obtain a permit to handle hazardous waste, in addition:

  • Your waste disposal company certificate or your registration certificate as a certified EMAS company (if your company has the relevant certification; in the form of a PDF file with a maximum file size of 2 MB)
  • proof of business and environmental liability insurance (if such exists)
  • Evidence of the professional qualifications of the persons responsible for the performance and supervision of the operation

Please note

If you want to transport, collect, trade or broker hazardous waste, you need a permit. Simply reporting this activity is not enough. Under certain conditions, you can be exempted from the permit requirement.

Deadlines

You need confirmation from the responsible authority before you start waste management activities.

Procedure

Report your first activity or any change to essential information to the responsible authority. To do so, submit the required documents in writing, by email or electronically.


The responsible authority will check your report and your documents. If necessary, it will request further documents from you.


You will receive a confirmation of your notification. The responsible authority can

  • make it dependent on conditions,
  • they are time-limited,
  • subject to conditions or
  • completely prohibit.

Processing time

The processing time depends on the individual case.

Fees

Fees range from 30.00 euros to 120.00 euros.
