Detailed description

The medical on-call service will help you if you need medical assistance outside of regular office hours, for example in the evenings, at night or on weekends and public holidays.

The medical on-call service is the right place to go if you have urgent but non-life-threatening illnesses where treatment cannot wait until the next regular consultation. In such cases, you can contact the on-call service by phone on 116 117 to receive medical advice or to arrange an examination.

In life-threatening cases, do not call the emergency medical service but rather the emergency services by dialing 112.

The telephone number 116117 works without an area code and is valid throughout Germany. The medical on-call service provides care for both statutory health insurance and private patients

Procedure

  • You dial the number 116 117
  • You speak to an employee in one of the numerous regional control centers and describe your concerns.
  • Your request will be recorded and forwarded to a doctor.
  • You will find out the location of the nearest emergency practice, which you can visit yourself. If necessary, a doctor can also come to your home.
