Apply for recertification of trainers in the field of aviation security

If you would like to have an approved instructor in aviation security recertified, you can apply to your aviation security authority via the airport operator.

Detailed description

If you wish to have an approved instructor in the field of aviation security recertified, you can apply for this through the airport operator at your aviation security authority.



You must apply for the recertification of your trainer in order to continue training and educating the following groups of people:

  • Air security assistants
  • Aviation security control officers
  • Security personnel for mail or materials from airlines, on-board supplies and airport deliveries
  • Vehicle control forces
  • Access control personnel as well as staff for surveillance and patrols
  • Other security personnel for mail or materials from airlines, in-flight supplies and airport deliveries
  • Supervisory staff
  • Security officer.

You can also apply for recertification as a trainer for the following groups of people:

  • Persons other than passengers who require unaccompanied access to secure areas
  • People regarding general safety awareness.

As a trainer, you can train several groups of people.

 

Information

Prerequisites

  • They have completed an extended background check.
  • They have a current certification.
  • They have completed the required training courses:
    • From the date of certification, instructors must complete at least four hours of continuing education annually on aviation security and the latest security-related developments and provide immediate proof of this to the responsible aviation security authority.
    • If the responsible aviation security authority identifies deficiencies in the training personnel, the advanced training instruction can be extended by up to 12 hours.
    • The advanced training is conducted by airport operators. The relevant aviation security authority is also involved.

Before applying for recertification: Ensure you submit the background check in good time, as it is a prerequisite for recertification. Submit your renewal application at least two months before the expiry date.




The validity period is a maximum of 5 years.




If the responsible aviation security authority does not receive proof of continuing education training no later than 13 months after certification and again no later than 25 months after certification, the aviation security authority may revoke the certification.

Procedure

  • You notify the relevant aviation security authority of your need for recertification through the airport operator or security service provider and simultaneously submit proof of the required continuing education training. You use the provided online service for this purpose.
  • The aviation security authority receives the documents and checks their content.
  • If necessary, follow-up questions will be sent to the airport operator or the security service provider via email.
  • Prior to recertification, the responsible aviation security authority conducts a teaching demonstration with the instructor.
  • Upon successful completion of the recertification process, the recertification certificate will be issued.
  • The recertification certificate and a notification will be sent by post to the person to be recertified (the trainer).
  • The airport operator will receive a copy of the certificate and a notification by mail.
  • The fee notice will be prepared and sent to the airport operator by post.

Processing can take up to several weeks and varies depending on the individual case.
