Request a sidewalk crossing change

You can request a change to an existing sidewalk crossing.

  •

Detailed description

Sidewalk crossings are, for example, property driveways or curb cuts. They are used to make a property easily accessible for vehicles from the street.
You need a permit to set up a footpath crossing. Existing footpath crossings can also be modified. You must apply for the change to the responsible authority.
Property access roads require a different type of construction or paving than the sidewalk, regardless of whether they are being constructed or modified. As a rule, work on public roads is commissioned by the city. In exceptional cases, you as the applicant may commission the work yourself from an approved specialist company.

Information

Prerequisites

  • You are the owner of the property.
  • Alternatively, you have a power of attorney from the property owner.
  • If you are permitted to carry out the modification of the sidewalk crossing yourself: The company you have commissioned is an approved company.
  • The vertical and visual continuity of the walkway is maintained.
  • The change will not result in any interruptions to the sidewalk.

Documents required

  • scaled site plan
  • Extract from the property cadastre
  • photos of the location
  • If applicable: cadastral map

Please note

  • You may not alter a pavement crossing yourself without the permission of the responsible authority (for example, with wooden beams or steel ramps). Such alterations constitute an unlawful intervention in the road space. You may be committing a criminal offense.
  • Obtaining a permit to alter the sidewalk crossing does not mean that you will also receive other permits for projects such as building a garage or carport. You must apply for these permits separately.

Deadlines

There is no deadline.

Procedure

  • You apply for the change of the sidewalk crossing in writing (by post, email, fax) and submit the necessary documents.
  • The responsible body will examine whether there are any reasons against implementing the change.
  • If the requested change is extensive, the responsible authority will organize an on-site appointment in which you will also participate.
  • Once your application has been approved, you will receive a permit and can have the sidewalk crossing changed. If necessary, the responsible authority will set conditions and requirements.
    • The responsible body may also order the change itself. If the responsible body has the work carried out, you do not need to take any further steps.
    • Otherwise, you must commission an approved company to carry out the change. The company must apply for a traffic authority order for the change measure.
  • Based on the production costs, you make an advance payment
  • Once the work is completed, you will receive an invoice for the remaining modification costs and pay them.
  • After completion of the construction work, you will arrange a joint acceptance date with the responsible authority.

Processing time

The processing time varies from case to case and can take up to several months.

Fees

50.00 - 800.00 EUR

The costs are divided into an administration fee and production costs. The administration fee and production costs depend on the size and condition of the sidewalk crossing and the need to carry out further measures (for example, planting replacement trees or moving light poles).
