Detailed description
The federal building department, which is part of the authority for urban development and housing of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, takes on all federal building tasks for federal properties in Hamburg as the responsible building administration. In particular, the Federal Building Department is responsible for the planning and implementation of new buildings, conversions and extensions, as well as for building maintenance on federal military and civilian properties.
Military properties include the German Armed Forces Hospital in Hamburg, the German Armed Forces Command Academy and the German Armed Forces University (Helmut Schmidt University). The civil properties include the Federal Police, Customs, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, the Federal Agency for Technical Relief and the German Weather Service.
Other tasks of the federal building department are building-related user advice, the preparation of building-related expert opinions and assessments, the operational monitoring of civil properties and participation in measures in subsidized construction by the federal government.
