In 2014, Deutsche Bahn decided to relocate the Hamburg-Altona long-distance and regional train station to the Diebsteich site.
The relocation of the Hamburg-Altona long-distance and regional train station is an opportunity for the area around the current Diebsteich S-Bahn station and for the west of Hamburg as a whole. The area gains in "centrality". The authority for urban development and housing wants to develop the area around the new Diebsteich train station into a modern and urban city district. Today's uses, such as workplaces, manufacturing industry, housing as well as sports and green spaces, are secured, while at the same time the quarter is to be designed in an innovative and sustainable way.
