For Hamburg's 2019 Port Anniversary, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg will once again team up with the NDR Orchestra to present classical music lovers with a very special treat. In 2018 the cooperation worked well and Inside Hamburg’s newest landmark, the renowned NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra transfixed ticket-holders with live performances, while outside, on Platz der Deutschen Einheit square, a live stream ensured that the music could be enjoyed by all. Star Wars fans were treated to a live rendition of John Williams’ famous score, and Gustav Holst’s 'Planets' brought listeners to space in a galaxy not quite so far away. Selected concert highlights were also screened as a celebratory nod to the the first year of the Elbphilharmonie’s existence.
HafenCity
Hamburg's newest district offers more than just the Elbphilharmonie. On Kehrwiederspitze, the South Africa Festival featured food and wine from the country by the Cape of Good Hope.
In the small canals that traverse HafenCity, kids could enjoy their first sailing experiences, and the Sandtorhafen museum port offered open ship events throughout the entire weekend.
For lovers of maritime sports, the 3rd HafenCity Championships were a clear highlight. The events at Grasbrookhafen included exciting sailing regattas and dragon boat races.
