On 29 April 2016, Frank Horch, Hamburg’s former Senator for Economy, Transport and Innovation, introduced the ITS Strategy to the media, joined by Dr. Sebastian Saxe (head of services at Hamburg Port Authority), Martin Huber (head of the State Office for Traffic and Roads), Henrik Falk (chairman of HOCHBAHN AG) and Harry Evers (CEO of ITS Germany GmbH).
Traffic solutions using digitalisation
The Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg ratified a strategy to utilise digital technology to make the traffic of the future safer, cleaner, more efficient and more comfortable. This strategy paper constitutes the foundation for increasing the structured use of information and communication technology as well as innovative traffic solutions. Together with associations, businesses and research institutions, digital change is to be furthered gainfully.
Six fields of action to reach future goals
Some important aims of the ITS Strategy are increased traffic security and steady traffic flow, as well as reducing negative effects on the environment. These aims are to be pursued via six different fields of action to further innovations: data and information, smart traffic management and control, intelligent infrastructure, smart parking, mobility as a service, as well as automatic and interconnected driving.
